Greens plug to fill transport black holes at Lake and Wallsend

The Greens today called on whoever wins the March NSW election to provide transport justice for residents in growth areas around Lake Macquarie and Wallsend.

In a joint statement, the Greens candidates for Lake Macquarie and Wallsend said that adequate levels of public transport are a community right and one of the keys to a sustainable urban environment.

Howard Morrison, the Greens candidate for Lake Macquarie, condemned the Carr government for neglecting Lake residents.

“The failure to build the Glendale train station when the Glendale Supercentre opened in 1996 is a glaring example of how Lake Macquarie residents are treated when it comes to public transport.

Greens castigate Carr over broken chip promise

The Greens today joined local environment groups in condemning the Carr Government’s broken promises on export woodchipping.

Local environment groups have this morning blocked access to trucks entering the export woodchip facility in Newcastle to draw attention to the Carr government’s broken election promises.

Transport Black Holes at Wallsend and the Lake

The Greens want fair transport treatment for Lake Macquarie and Wallsend residents.

Time to end backroom deals on Austeel, say Greens

The Greens candidate for Port Stephens, Tom Griffiths, today called on the Carr government to publicly disclose what commitments it has signed off to on the proposed Austeel development.

Citing a statement by Austeel chief executive John Elmore in Wednesday’s Newcastle Herald that the company “had strong commitments from the government on this project which they have signed off on”, Mr Griffiths said that it was time for Mr Carr to lift the veil of secrecy that his government had drawn over this development proposal.

Newcastle Greens urge residents to march against War

Newcastle Greens candidate for Port Stephens, Tom Griffiths, is urging residents who oppose Australia’s involvement in a war against Iraq to attend a “No War” March and Rally beginning in Civic Park on Saturday February 15 at 11:00 am.

“As polls show across the country, an overwhelming number of people in our communities are frustrated and angry at the prospect of war in Iraq, and Australian involvement,” said Mr Griffiths.

Greens announce local state election candidates

Newcastle Greens today announced The Greens candidates for six local seats
for next month’s state election.

The Greens’ local line-up includes former Labor councillor Keith Parsons,
who will contest the seat of Charlestown where Labor is locked in a bitter
factional preselection battle, and sitting Newcastle councillor, Ian
McKenzie, who will stand for the seat of Newcastle.
