The Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Greens have today posted all candidates for Newcastle and Lake Macquarie local council with a survey form seeking to place on the public record information about political party memberships and sources of funding. The Greens have called on all candidates to reply and make the results public.
In a step designed to increase councillor accountability to the public, the Greens sought to make available information from all candidates, seeking disclosure on issues such as party memberships, business interests in the city and sources of campaign funds.

In her candidate’s speech at the 2004 Local Government Greens Campaign Launch today at Yamuloong, Garden Suburb, LAKE MACQUARIE GREENS EAST WARD candidate AMANDA WILSON said International Women’s Day on MONDAY MARCH 8 was a timely reminder of the need to see more women voted into office at the March 27 council elections.
Ms Wilson said the Greens were committed to women participate fully in all areas of life, including the government and business worlds which were historically dominated by men.

THE FAILURE of the State Government to secure Austeel on Tomago is a win for the environment according to Newcastle Greens.
Newcastle Greens Lord Mayoral candidate, Cr Ian McKenzie, has called on the Premier to immediately revoke SEPP 74, which was placed adjacent to environmentally sensitive areas of Ramsar-listed Kooragang Wetlands to secure a transport and infrastructure corridor for the Austeel project.
