Wednesday, 13 February 2008. Newcastle City Hall. 8.45 am for 9.00 am start
There will be a public screening of the Apology to the Stolen Generations and their descendants from the House of Representatives, at 9.00 am, and from the Senate at 9.30 am.
The event has been organised by local Aboriginal people and supporters. Greens Councillors have requested the Newcastle City Council to support the Apology by contributing to the organisation and costs of the event.
Aboriginal groups from all over Australia will be going to Canberra to witness the apology. Members of Newcastle’s Aboriginal community are planning to be part of the contingent to hear the Prime Minister say sorry on behalf of the nation. They have hired a bus, but are having problems funding accommodation for Elders in Canberra.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT NEEDED: Anyone willing to support the local community in their trip to Canberra could contact Jason Braneley, coordinator for the stolen generations, on 0438 705 496 as soon as possible.
